Manipur is a small state with a geographical area of 22,327 sq. km and around 23.88 lakh population as per 2001 census. Geographically, the state is divided into hill and valley regions. The land system comprises of surveyed and unsurveyed land. All the valley districts are survey land and hill districts are having survey land and unsurvey land.
Manipur was a single district up to October, 1969 thereafter a number of district re-organisation took place. At present there are 9(nine) districts. There are five hill districts namely, viz. Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul. And four valley 4 districts namely, viz. Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal with 3(three) A.D.Cs namely Jiribam, Kangpokpi and Moreh.
The Revenue Department is setup for efficient land administration and collection of land revenue in the valleys and house tax in the hills.
The Directorate of Settlement and Land Records conducts Survey Operation and preparation of land records. Once the preparation is over the records are transferred to the Deputy Commissioner, who is then responsible for their custody, maintenance, correction and updating. |
